Sapele is an exotic hardwood that's on the softer side. It's light and easy to work, and has a rich reddish-brown color.
Get close, and there is some lovely stuff happening in the grain.
Sapele seems to finish better with sandpaper than hand tools. It takes oil well. I've a mind to try it for something a little longer and see how it takes contact -- by the numbers it might be fine, but the light weight is a drawback.
But, still lovely. I made a couple, and I only need to keep one as a wood reference . . .
